Treatment-When the clock strikes 12.

The theme of our film is comedy horror. The main ideas of our film include the characters camping out for the night in a park, in which a killer strikes and kills his first victim in a bizzare way due to mistaken identity.

In our film we have two main characters, the first victim and of course the killer, the killer is called "The Striker" simply because he kills his victims when the clock strikes 12. The killer in our film opning is very distintive because when he kills his victims, he leaves a clue on the victims hand to warn others that he will strike again.

The killers goal in our opening is to manipulate his victims into believeing that he is his or her friend, when really he is plotting against them. the killer makes conversation with his "friends" when he says "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" and that kind of sets the mood for the rest of the opening. The victims goal in all of this is to enjoy a night of camping with his friends.

There is quite alot at stake in this film opening, especially the victims lives because the victim thinks that he going to enjoy a night of camping with his friends where nothing bad can happen to them, but for the audience they will know different. Another thing that is at stake is the killers reputation because although the killer kills his victims in a certain way, there's still a chace that he could get caught.

Audience Research

Audience research is important because without the audience the media text wouldn't have been created. Also when people deceide to buy the dvd they provide income for the production companies which is why it's important that films are advertised.

Demographics are all about how the audience and catergorised, they could be catergorised because of their age, gender, ethnicity, religion and sometimes a persons sexuality. for example different films have a variety of age ratings, most horror films are suitable for 18+ and comedy kids films are either PG or 12+. Another reason why audiences might be catergorised is because of their gender e.g. chick flicks such as "mean girls" and "legally blonde" are the types of films that teenage girls would watch because of whats expected to be in the film e.g. boys, people dressed in pink, comedy and usually romance. Where as an action/horror film e.g. "fast and furious" and "mirrors 2" are usually the type of films that teenage boys would watch because of the conventions in that film e.g. girls, violence and fast cars.

There are some key theories that are shown to explain the medias relationship with the audience, for exapmple the Hypodermic needle effect, this is a theory in which the media is able to "mass manipulate" the audience into believing what they see in a film. But the one that i think best describes the medias relationship with the audience is called the two step flow model, this is where people pass on information about something (usually a film) that they have seen to another person. I think this is the best example because its almost as if a person is advertising the film, simply by telling another person about it which might or might not persuade people to then go and watch the film.

Mood Board

This is the mood board that myself,Chelsea,Rhys and Scott put together. We have created a mood board so we can represent our chosen genre which is comedy/horror. By working as a team we was all able to identify 4 key concepts and show them on the mood board in a way that the audience will be able to understand.

Our 4 key concepts of the mood board are stereotypical blondes, costumes, comedy (comedians) and survivors. We decided that those were our 4 key concepts because when people watch a comedy/horror film, those concepts are the sort of thing that they would expect to see. Costumes are a key concept of a comedy horror because costumes, depending on what they are can be quite scary, but because our genre is comedy horror, the costumes are quite silly. We have decided to put comedians on our mood board because we wanted to show the audience that a comedy horror film isn't just horror with elements of comedy in it, it's a horror with equal amounts of comedy in it.

We also decided to add stereotypical blondes into the mood board because in almost comedy horror or horror film you will see a blonde girl and usually the blonde girl portrays herself as not being very intellectual and they're usually the first ones killed, also they appeal more to the male audience.

Another key concept that we decided to add onto our mood board is survivors. Survivors are one of the main concepts in comedy/horror films there will always be that one person, male or female who will survive til the end whereas the baddy gets defeated. This is almost like a fairytale because they live happily ever after.

Genre Research

A genre is a way of separating films by putting them into different categories, e.g. horror, comedy, action and sci-fi. The advantages of having a genre is that is gives the audience a range of different films to watch that will suit them because everyone has a favourite genre, also by having a genre the audience will know what to expect from their film choices. The disadvantages of having a genre is that they might not always be helpful because what one person expects from a certain genre, might be different to what another person expects, e.g. someone from the 1900's, another disadvantage is its as if the genres are being put into boxes and catergorised, but thats not always helpful because every film is different no matter what genre they have.

The genre we have chosen for our film is a horror/comedy. The conventions of a horror comedy include a serial killer, murders (sometimes can be quite violent), a bit of slapstick that can be quite humourous and funny moments that make the audience laugh. The whole point of a horror comedy is to scare the audeince, but in a way that would also make them laugh, For example the film Tormented (image below) is a horror-comedy because the killings that occur in the film can be quite violent which would want to scare the audience, but there are also silly moments in the film that aim to make the audience laugh.

The genre of horror/comedy goes back to the 19th century, for example one of the first horror/comedy films was called Haunted Spooks (image below) it was about a man who tries to commit suicide because he cannot find love but then he marries this beautiful woman and they move into this mansion but it is spooked by a wicked uncle to tries to scare the couple away so he can have the mansion to himself.

Not only are genres about cateorgerising films, it's also about the directors who help make the films. Foe example a well known director is Keenen Ivory Wayans, he's an amaerican actor, comedian director and writer. He directed the films Scary Movie 1 and 2. I think Keenen Ivory Wayans is a good example because he knows everything there is to know about comedy/horror.
